About An Honest Take

One person. No scripts. Just the truth.

We’ve all seen them: the reviews that read like press releases, the fake enthusiasm for mediocre gadgets, and the "Top 10" lists written by AI bots that have never touched a keyboard, let alone used one.

I’m over it.

I’m a Senior Software Developer working in e-commerce. My professional life is spent building systems that have to work. My personal life is spent finding ways to make technology work for me—not the other way around. Whether I'm optimising code, working on my health, or planning a trip, I apply the same level of scrutiny: Is this actually helping, or is it just in the way?

My Philosophy: Productive "Laziness"

I’m always looking for ways to work smarter (and, let’s be real, be a bit lazier). I don't care about brand loyalty or flashy marketing. I care about value and efficiency.

I’m a Linux convert for both work and play, yet I currently carry an iPhone. Why? Because right now, it’s the tool that fits my workflow. My loyalty isn’t fixed; it’s earned every single day. If something more efficient comes along tomorrow, I’m gone. This same logic applies to how I travel: I’ll spend the money on Premium Travel and 5-star hotels if it means I’m well-rested enough to actually enjoy the trip. If it’s not adding value, it’s gone.

The "Honest" Promise

Any affiliate links you find here help support this project, but they will never dictate my opinion.

  • If I use it and love it, I’ll tell you why.
  • If I think it’s overpriced or under-engineered, I’ll tell you to save your money.
  • If I wouldn't spend my own hard-earned cash on it, I won't ask you to spend yours.

Beyond the Code

When I’m not debugging or tinkering with my setup, I’m trying to maintain some semblance of balance.

  • The Fuel: Like any self-respecting millennial, I am legally required to be powered by caffeine before 09:00 AM.
  • The Movement: I’m a "jack of all trades" when it comes to staying active—whether it’s Zwifting, bouldering, running, or strength training. Physical fitness is the only thing that keeps me sane in an increasingly digital world.
  • The Recharge: My happy place is snuggled on the sofa watching Classic Doctor Who, Star Trek (DS9 is the GOAT), or Blake’s 7. Glass of wine optional, but highly recommended.

Welcome to An Honest Take. Let’s cut through the noise together.
